since im no longer in the guild, ill leave this here as a source for future/current slingers, but im no longer going to update it, if you have questions you can PM me on basil (FroznSolid), Tk you can delete it anytime you wish, adieu

"The Comprehensive Gunslinger Guide" is good. But it lacks in many areas. Takeback3r hasn't updated the 4th job builds, since no one could agree on them previously (im trying to get that going, i've made 'frameworks' of builds that could go in on his thread).

Kazoo also removed the variety of 3rd job builds, another move i didn't appreciate. The multiple builds allowed for diversity and versitility. not to mention, before they removed it, blaze capsules were dirt cheap.

So, since we have alot of gunslingers, i'll go ahead and post some builds. 3rd and 4th job builds are up (with missing Analysis for 4th Job). Congratulations to ArchPooh for getting 3rd job, DON'T LV PAST ME!

I <3 Copy & Paste

-I recommend that, it gives the versatility to train at a variety of locations, not rendering training to sniping on Newties. It allows you to have a powerful mobbing combination, which together does much more damage on a mob of 6 then Rapid Fire, even w/o the monsters being fire weak. Of course, in 4th Job, Torpedo crushes them all (unless the monster is fire weak, in which case Fire/Ice combo with Elemental Amplification does more damage [that is not proven through numbers, through numbers fire is behind by like 50%, but since Fire has DoT, i am assuming it would do more damage]).

-K back to the build, Triple Fire is maxed first, making Windraider a great training Spot, along with many others in CWK, Cooling is maxed next to allow you to freeze up to 6 monsters, it is not maxed because the only place you can take points out of w/o sacrificing 4th job skills is Fire, and Fire yields 4% more damage if it is maxed instead of Ice. Fire is maxed next to allow use of the Fire/Ice Combo. Now, Ice is maxed before fire because freezing mobs allows much lower pot usage, some, like Kazoo of Basil, maxed fire before Ice (but doesn't recommend it), allowing mobbing at Nightshadows (True?, just guessing, since Fire/Ice allows best xp at Nightshadows at 9x), but Kazoo expressed it working well at Water Goblins. You use Fire to keep back mobs, Triple Fire to kill the one closest. However, that still runs the risk of them breaking through.

Things to keep in mind:
~1 Homing can be added to at any time
~This build is not recommended and yes, i am biased against it

With this your sniping at newties for 30 levels, not recommended. But for those who love putting bricks on alt and watching tv, here's some analysis:

-This is the 'Standard' Build in KMS and all other versions of Maplestory. However, it has been deemed 'fail' by many. Why? CWK is why. It has many spots where a strong mobbing combo (ice/fire) can be used to get amazing %/hr.

Back onto this build, Burst Fire is maxed first for obvious reasons (-cough strong atk -cough), then you max Octopus to help atk Newties, Cooling helps freeze Newties (lv 1 is enough for the requirement, but since there is nothing else to dump points into), Gaviota gets the next points since it can be used to do some good damage. Key word, *can. Half the time it goes uselessly in the other direction screaming "I can't believe you were stupid enough to put 30 points into me, specially when 15 points in me is enough to unlock Air Strike!". Homing is dumped into next, but because maxing it is not optional. Well it is, but if you don't max it, you give up Bullseye (If you do this, blame your mother, please go smash your head against a wall and hope the wiring comes out right this time around.

Analysis: I decided to post this build because many showed interest in 30 lv's of Newtie sniping, but this, in my opinion, is a better alternative to the standard Newties build. It sufficiently grows Fire from a dump of points to a useful skill. Fire has many advantages over torpedo, more damage on fire weak mobs when used in conjunction with ice then max torpedo when Elemental Boost is max. You cant jump and atk with Torpedo (you can with fire), in 4th job when you train near mobs with torpedo, when your ship breaks this allows you to be able to handle mobs, something Rapid Fire/Burst Shot can't do because of bad damage and minimum firing range.

Many object against this build because you don't use flamethrower in 3rd job (when it is meant to be used, they say), and Gaviota is weakened. I have obvious answers to them:

-Lv 15 Gaviota and lv 30 Gaviota has a 25% damage difference. the point of gaviota can be forfilled by both.
-On the other hand, Flamethrower, with the standard build, is a dump of points. Lv 11 Flamethrower has no purpose. Lv 26+ flamethrower, however, does.

On the build i chose to leave ice at 26, if you want you can max it and leave fire at 26, i just didn't for reasons posted in the Mobbing Build (more damage, ice damage doesn't matter in 4th, in 3rd it has a minimal impact at newties)

The most common, and among the stupidest argument against Fire in 3rd job. At this rate, we shouldn't add points to Invisi either, since its unused after lv 74 (which burst fire overpowers it).

Fire is used in 4th job. It is useful jumping and attacking mobs (since you cant jump and attack with torpedo), and when your ship breakers (unless you choose early-Rapid Fire [not recommended]), to do serious damage to mobs of skeles. Invisi is NOT used after lv 74 at all. I will be taking it off my keyboard. If you do not put atleast 26 points in Fire, don't bother with Invisi.

Another reason why you should: What else would you put points into?

Gaviota is simply a dump of points. lv 15 is enough to unlock Air Strike, maxing it is a dump of points. the 25% increase in damage is not worth it.

Also, the things you can use Gaviota for (mass summoning before bosses, sneaking a few in between hits [not recommended]) can all be forfilled by lv 15 Gaviota just as well as lv 30 Gaviota. Fire, on the other hand, is a dump of points at lv 11. Only at lv 26+ is it a real attack. If you don't max it, its like the Grenade of 3rd job [except much more useful maxed].

2. Why not max Ice and leave fire at 26?

Another ill-conceived arguement. Maxing Fire allows you to get an extra 4% per ice/fire combo in 3rd job.

That could be 50-60 damage, which, while seems miniscule, across mobs of 5-6 monsters, that increases to 250-360 damage, and when you 5-6 hit KO monsters, that gap increases to 1250-2160 damage lost. It can be the difference between a 5 hit KO, or a 6 hit KO.

[Wall of Text Alert]

In 4th job, the extra 8% in ice will NEVER be the difference between a 3 or a 4 hit KO. the numbers from Cannon and Torpedo will overshadow it disproportionately, and the increase of 500-720 damage of an attack used once on a mob (most corsairs can kill skele/newtie mobs with just 1 freeze, many in their 14x-15x don't even need to freeze them, they can kill them before their m. atk finally atks) will NOT get you a 1 hit less KO. There are simply much bigger numbers at work (compare the 500-720 damage ONCE to the barrage of 40k cannons and 20k torpedo's (to mobs of 5-6 when talking about torpedo).

EDIT: 4th job builds have been added, they should also be added onto the "Comprehensive Gunslinger Guide" soon, i perfected them on the thread (5 hours of labor, i forgot how to add D=).

I'll put up Analysis soon, and remember ask questions, so i can expand the FAQ section.

Yea I'll be working on my baby girl gunner soonish (Same act as TK so no leech until I get to 4th with my I/L Gunslinger In-depth 3rd and 4th job Builds 136861) so this will help even me! We do have many gunners level 50 and under, and I know one or two that stopped because they didn't know what to do.

And it would be too hard for him to make builds for other classes. If I tried making a DK build, I would fail those who read it, QUITE miserably! LOL

I think something you should focus a lot on too, is Fire or Ice? my personal opinion is max fire, but I see a lot of people asking on other forums. Its a good topic. GL with it!

The guide looks great! I personally will be doing the Newtie build. And, I may be wrong, but I didn't think Nightshadows were able to be frozen? I'd test with my i/l but she's much too weak to even try. Sadly, I'm looking forward to the 34564353 levels of Newtie Sniping, I like Minidungeons <3 I really hate having to keep TK logged out in the same map where I'm training.

Quick question about 2nd job, what do you think our skills should be by lv 70? Im only 54 and not sure if everything gets maxed or I leave something a lone LOL

k, i only left the part of your post that i had questions about.

skills on 2nd? Max everything except Grenade, if you got max SSK in 1st job (like me), put Max Bullet time (or the 1st job skill you left off for SSK, usually its bullet time), if you didn't max SSK and maxed bullet time in 1st job, just dump points in Grenade.

True, you can't freeze night shadows, but fire can be alternated with burst fire and you can stun nightshadows, and you have recoil for getting away from mobs. Plus, other options for the ice/fire build include gobies, himes, practically all mob monsters in CWK.

And you don't need a priest for himes, since you have freeze, HP costs will be far below what other priest-less jobs have to encounter. Why were you planning to go newties build? You don't think me saying "versatility of training" stood for "just nightshadows" did you?

I lived in Himes for far too long. I mean I want to go the way of Newtie Sniping, its the only Minidungeon that is good for levels 90-120+. I never like having to keep TK logged out where Im training to defend my map. Im almost always solo and hate seeing people in my map.

I added everyone on the roster list. I wasn't saying it was a bad thing that you did. You log in at MSguild.org, go to your character, go to Edit and upload a Background image, click save and snag the link. Anyone that is loaded onto the website can use the signatures by adding their names into the image URL. If you look at the rankings underneath everyones guildname it says who uploaded that character.

Kk, i have a 15 gaviota/26 FT build in the tunnel, so you can newites snipe and still have fire to use in 4th job when ship is dead/you need to jump and atk a mob
